I bought my house in 2012. Then, the street was fine when it rained. In 2013 I believe, the City ripped up our street to replace the sewer lines. Ever since then, when it rains heavy, our street floods. I have sent several pictures to the City of Clawson years ago. My poor neighbor across the street from me, always comes in the middle of the storms to brush the drain clean so our the water does not creep up on to our lawns. You can see the road dip down where the flooding happens - I mean - they REPAIRED our street completely, new cement, everything. So, not sure why its worse then before they "fixed" it. What are my city tax dollars going towards? New sewer lines, new street pavement - yet, it floods?

I believe they "throttled" the sewers so that fast drainage wouldn't overwhelm them. We have much the same issue when it rains, but after it lets up some, the sewers "swallow" what they need to.

Yes. Maybe that is right. Ours will also drain eventually,just very slow. Then, you have the cars flying though the huge flood which is kind of entertaining to watch as the water looks way more shallow then it really is lol. It's just a pain if you had an emergency and had to leave you would have to drive through lake Custer avenue first.

You live just a couple blocks from me; did they put in new sewer grates with fewer holes than there used to be?

Oh good point. I never noticed the original ones,though. I'm sure they would have but new ones in?

I think they took out a some of the ones with all the holes and put in some that have like four or six in the manhole cover

Yes you right, the brand new sewers have new wide holes, for a few weeks, then they replace them with cement plugged holes, action as orifices , the land above the park area towards main, (flats) would just flood all the time, our recent floods 2 or more years ago would of been much worse.
This Picture is a pic. of Lake Baker, there are three fire hydrants, hidden in this picture. People had grass clippings hanging on the ceiling of their basement.

The new make over streets, did have the new Sewer covers, they had nice clear holes in them, they were soon replaced. with the covers with cemented holes, acting as orifices. to cut back on the quantity of the flow of water, into the sewers.
With the northwest section of the city so much higher, this had to be done. The flood we had 3 or so years ago, the Flats and other side of main area, would of been, so much worst. As it was 3 or more fire hydrants were submerged. over by Lake Baker.

I am in the far southeast corner of the city and we have cement filled grates too. Never had a flood in 31 years, but my back yard has a pond in it today. When they widened Crooks and repaved, my now deceased neighbor had the construction crew dumping front-end loaders full of dirt in his yard that had been graded properly to drain water away from his house. I had to get former DPW manager Lou Vitale put a stop to it. Now I get his run-off.
